Several areas of the State capital reeled under protracted spells of power outages on Wednesday. Power official said that supply is being affected off and on in some localities due to works going on to improve power supply in Dehradun. However, intriguingly enough, UPCl officials tend to deny that there have been power- cuts when their attention is drawn to the people’s suffering. UPCl spokesperson Madhusudan Issar on Wednesday said that power cut has been reported from Rajpur, Salawala and other areas because of the replacement of electricity poles being done at Survey Chowk area.
The common people say with the start of summer season they have been bearing the brunt of the power department going for this or that work. “We are suffering as we are going without power for hours in Salawala area. The residents were not informed about power- cuts in advance by the department officials,” said Ramesh, resident of Salawala.
Rajesh, resident of Rajpur, said that it has become a common phenomena with the power department dangling excuses to have the supply cut. “Raipur and Rajpur areas have been grappling with frequent power- cuts for the past many days. On Wednesday too, there was no power for hours since the morning. When contacted, the power officials at control room assure that power supply would be restored by 6 pm. This rarely happens,” he said.
