The three-day farmers’ seminar organised by Bhartiya Kisan Union (Ambawat group) that was started in Haridwar on Saturday with the participation of farmers from all the States of the northern India has seen the participants firming up a ‘Maha Morcha’ to fight against the policies of the Centre and some State Governments, including that of Madhya Pradesh.
They are now discussing a plan to go for protest in every district of the country on July 19 against the recent killing of five farmers in police firing in MP and also to serve a memorandum to the President, asking him to sack the MP government. Farmers from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh aside from Utarakhand have converged at the seminar to deliberate over their future plan of action in the aftermath of the alleged farmers’ carnage by the MP police. A resolution was also passed during the seminar, condemning the killing of farmers in MP. The farmers demanded compensation to the tune of Rs one crore for the next of kin of each of the deceased farmers.
Ripping into the Centre, the national president of BKU (Ambawat group) Rishipal Ambawat said on Sunday that the farmers had supported Narendra Modi in the last Parliamentary elections because of their unhappiness with UPA’s pro- capitalist policies. “We had hoped that ‘Achhe Din’ would come about as promised by Modi. But nothing has changed in the three years of the Modi government. Rather it is baring fangs on the farmers, he said.
