Traffic congestion and other problems resulting from lack of parking space in Chamba town are likely to be resolved now as the construction of a double-storied parking facility-cum-shopping centre near the main intersection in town has been completed. This facility is slated to be inaugurated on May 9.
In addition to this, the administration has approved proposals submitted by the Nagar Panchayat for construction of parking facilities in four major sites in town.
The locals, travellers and visitors have long been facing inconvenience due to lack of parking facility in Chamba town in Tehri district. Traffic jams lasting hours are among the problems caused by lack of designated parking space. To tackle this problem, the Nagar Panchayat had started construction of a double story parking-cum-commercial complex near the main intersection in town.
This facility has been constructed at a cost of Rs20.77 lakh. The ground floor of this building will be used for parking four wheelers while the first floor will have seven shops with provision for parking two-wheelers on the terrace of the building.
Meanwhile, in a related development, the administration has approved the proposals submitted by the Nagar Panchayat for facilitation of designated parking space at Mussoorie Road, Uttarkashi Road, Gaja Road and College Road in order to handle the increasing load of vehicles in Chamba.
The Chamba Nagar Panchayat head Vikram Singh Panwar said that with the administration approving the proposals, the approved parking facilities will be developed within one year.
