Parade Ground turned into fortress for State's new CM's swearing-in

PNS

Parade Ground where Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and his Cabinet colleagues were sworn in on Saturday in the presence of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi was converted into a veritable fortress with a large contingent of police and other forces being deployed.  The same was the scene in terms of security arrangements at Jolly Grant Airport and GTC helipad.

The special aircraft carrying the PM and his entourage landed at Jolly Grant Airport around 2.20 pm. PM was welcomed among others by Uttarakhand Governor KK Paul, the Chief Minister- designate Trivendra Singh Rawat, Chief Secretary S Ramaswamy  and DGP MA Ganapathy. From there, he arrived at GTC Ground by an IAF chopper and reached Parade Ground by road at around 2.50 pm. As scheduled, PM left Parade Ground for GTC helipad at around 3.25 pm from where he reached Jolly Grant Airport by a chopper.  His special aircraft left for Delhi at around 3.45 pm.

Security was very strict at the Parade Ground where the people, even the VIPs, were frisked before being allowed to get in.  Police were strict too regarding parking of vehicles. Barricades being erected ahead of the Parade Ground area, the visitors had to walk to reach the venue.
