The under construction Pacific Hills apartments at Mussoorie diversion, have been the focus of controversy ever since the previous Mukhya Nagar Adhikari (MNA) at MCD, Harak Singh Rawat took action against encroachment of 886 square metres of municipal land for this construction last year. The MDDA recently sealed this building for violation of setback norms, but official intentions of a stronger action is doubtful. With reports of the builder approaching the MCD to purchase its land, Dehradun Mayor Vinod Chamoli has stressed that the corporation will not give its land.
While the Mayor appears to be standing strongly against encroachment by the builder of Pacific Hills apartments, expressing concern about the possibility of the builder attempting to influence the officials concerned to facilitate a conducive outcome, observers point out that since the construction of these apartments has been on for some time, the fact that the MDDA and MCD took action when the apartment construction was nearing completion raises questions at the functioning of officials.
