The schools of the State are gearing up to celebrate the 70th Independence Day on August 15. This year the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has asked the school heads to organise a fortnight long activities to imbibe a spirit of patriotism among the students.
The Union Ministry has christened the freedom fortnight as ‘Azadi 70-Yaad Karo Kurbani’ in which series of programmes would be held in the schools with a central theme of patriotism.
The MHRD has suggested that the fortnight long activities should start from August 09 and would culminate on August 23. The Ministry has circulated a list of suggested activities to State Governments, Chairman of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangatan (KVS) and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti.
The circular has suggested that the students should take up activities like preparation of greeting cards to the armed forces personnel posted at the borders, quiz competitions, Essay contests, plays, and slogan writing competition, elocution, tree plantation drive and talks by invited dignitary on subjects like history of freedom movement.
MHRD has directed to ensure that the each primary, upper primary and secondary school should take up at least one activity and each higher secondary school should take up at least two activities related to the theme of freedom movement. One of a key feature of the fortnight would be simultaneous singing the Nation song in all the schools on last day–August 23.
Meanwhile, the schools have started preparation for the celebrating the Independence day in style. The Principal of the Kendriya Vidhyalaya ONGC Dehradun, DS Negi said that the Independence Day celebrations in schools instill a sense of patriotism among the students and the students should take part in them with enthusiasm.
Anuradha Payal head of a Government Primary school in Yamkeshwar block of Pauri district said that the school would organise cultural programe on the occasion and the little ones would be explained the meaning of independence and the sacrifice our martyrs have made to achieve.
