Clean chit to the suspects of the 2013-disaster scam in Chief Secretary’s report seems to have not gone down well among the people here with the Opposition threatening to strongly raise this issue in the upcoming Monsoon Session.
We cannot expect a fair probe into this disaster scam. But our party would strongly raise this issue in the upcoming monsoon session, asserted Balraj Passi, State BJP spokesperson during his Kumaon visit here on Sunday.
The ruling Congress party has indulged in corruption and it is not concerned about development of the State at all, he alleged.
The fact of the matter is that since the disaster scam is directly related to the human tragedy, therefore, unlike certain other alleged scams or cases of irregularities, the State Government can not sweep such emotive issues under the carpet, said Satbeer, a social activist here.
The revelation of the disaster scam through the RTI at a time when the Harish Rawat led State Government has less than two years time in office had not come as encouraging development for the State Congress party.
That is why the ruling party wanted to clear the air from the disaster scam as early as possible. Since a clean chit to the officials concerned involved in this scam has found a few takers, it is to be seen how the state Congress party workers go to face the public which is not so ‘happy’ on this issue here now.
More so, the old hands in Kumaon affairs here are of the view that incumbent Harish Rawat may try to show a people’s Chief Minister by way of certain social overtures he has extended so far, but his Government’s flip flop in dealing with cases of irregularities like the emotive disaster scam has only raised doubts over his will to deal with cases of corruption strongly.
