Opp MlA Arvind Pandey announces fast-unto-death

SUNIl KUMAR

Opposition MlA Arvind Pandey announced fast-unto-death unless and until State Chief Minister Harish Rawat fulfills his assurance, which was made while addressing the house to answer the opposition demand during question hour on Thursday, and staged dharna at the entrance of house at 11.05 am. Frustrated with the delay, few MlAs managed to enter into House, which was adjourned at 3.30pm, at 5 pm.

Now all eyes are on the Speaker who was skirting the opposition demand for action. With this development, it has made treasury bench uncomfortable if they react then they (Opposition) would get political mileage and if they did not react, then the situation may go out of control because the Opposition would become more vocal than now. To create hurdles in Vidhan Sabha proceedings, they jumped into the well of the House and appealed to the Speaker to give them protection because the State Government had assured yesterday and a day later they backtracked. With this development, it was clear that CM Rawat was making false promises for the sake of political mileage only.

To put pressure on treasury bench, they squatted at the entrance of House and shouted slogans against the State Government. Seeing their protest, the Speaker extended the adjournment thrice i.e. 12.20, 1pm then 3pm. later, the House resumed at 3pm and later was adjourned till 3.15pm. Realising the indifferent attitude of the Cabinet ministers, including Indira Hridayesh, Pritam Singh, Harak Singh Rawat, Yashpal Arya and Mantri Prasad Naithani, used the emergency gate to enter the House and exit from the House.
