The confusion regarding the revised house tax policy still prevailed among the officials of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD). The officials have still not come to any final conclusion regarding the recently introduced house tax policy.

The councillors and the officials were still seen arguing on it and have still not come to any common decision in respect to the house tax policy.

However, a meeting was also held between the BJP and Cong councillors under the leadership of Additional Mukhya Nagar Adhikari (AMNA), Harshvardhan Mishra. Councillors of both the parties stated their views but still failed to bring out final solution to it.

Senior BJP councillor, Sushil Gupta stating his view said that, the general public should not be overburdened in any case. He added that the recently launched house tax policy would help in increasing revenues of Municipal Corporation of Dehradun but no extra burden should be put on the common man.

leader of Opposition at MCD, Neenu Sehgal stated that still any final conclusion is not drawn from the meeting and hopefully some final decision might come after the meeting to be held on coming Monday.

Notably, in the board meeting of MCD held last month a revised house tax was presented by the board members. As per the revised house tax the residential buildings of the city were categorized mainly into four categories A, B, C and D. 75 paise per square feet monthly tax was decided to be imposed from the areas falling under category A, 50 paise per square feet on B category, 30 paise per square feet on C category and 20 paise per square feet on category D.

This categorization of the areas was done on the basis of way construction of the houses in that particular area. The houses constructed in a high class way were kept under category A, houses for a bit medium level was kept in the category B, houses constructed for lower level was kept under category C and the slums areas was put into the last category D.

Mainly posh areas of the city  including Race Course road, Govind Nagar Road, Haridwar Road, Teghbahadur Road, EC, Road, Nehru Road, Subhash Road, Ravindra Nath Tagore Marg-I and many other was kept under category A, Nardev Shashtri Marg, Amrit Kaur Road, Acharya Narendra Dev Marg, Mohini Road and other areas was put into category B, Patel Road, Naya Gaon, DAV Road, Nalapani Road and some other areas were included into category C while the slum areas including Nayi Basti Racecourse Road, Nayi basti Rispana, Nayi Basti Shivaji Marg was categorized under category D.

However, MCD had earlier estimated to add around Rs 10 to 15 crores of revenue by implementing the revised house tax policy in the financial year 2014-2015. Mayor of Dehradun, Vinod Chamoli had earlier stated that MCD is running under huge economic crisis from past many years and this recent amendment made in the house tax would surely help to overcome from this present financial crisis.
