The State Government is planning to open a Sports University in the State said the sports, education and Panchayati Raj minister, Arvind Pandey while talking to the media persons here on Friday. He said that the establishment of this university would a long way in promoting sports in the state. The minister said that the priority of the government would be to set up this university in some mountainous part but if in case any restrain like land, a suitable place in Dehradun or Haldwani would be chosen for this project. “My priority is that the sports university comes up in some mountainous location. This will help in preventing the migration from hills,’’ he quipped. The minister further informed that he will meet the central government officials to chalk out a plan for the university. He said that the state government is committed to inculcate a culture of sports in the state.
On the issue of Sainik School Rudraprayag, the minister said that he will look in the matter. The union government has given its nod for setting up second Sainik School in Rudraprayag but the work on the project is stalled.
