The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should allow only the wives and children to stay with the players during the overseas tours. The Vice President of the BCCI Rajiv Shukla said this while addressing media persons here on Sunday. He was responding to a query surrounding the ongoing Virat Kohli, Anushka Sharma controversy.
Prior to the current England tour the Vice captain of Indian Cricket team and star batsman Virat Kohli had requested the BCCI to allow film star Anushka Sharma to stay with him during the tour. The request was granted by the Cricketing body prompting a controversy. Board as a policy allows only wives and children of the players to accompany them in the foreign tour and Virat was given permission as an exception.
Shukla said that it was wrong on part of the BCCI to change its tradition. He however defended the star Indian player when asked to comment about the decline in performance of Virat. He said that such phases come in the life of a cricketer and a player of Virat's class should not be judged by failure in two- three innings. He hoped that Virat would come out of the present phase of loss of form. Responding on a question as to why India persists with Mahendra Singh Dhoni as Captain despite his dismal overseas performance; Shukla said that the task of selection of team and captain is the prerogative of the selection committee.
