The process of Aadhaar card number linking with the electoral roll seems to be slow in Champawat.
With the Election Commission of India making linking Aadhaar card number of each voter to the electoral roll compulsory, out of about 1,84,571 voters including 97,046 male and 87,525 female voters, only 18,919 voters’ Aadhar card number have so far been updated with the electoral roll in the Champawat district.
Similarly, the mobile number updating process with the electoral roll also remains slow in this district, officials said.
As the officials concerned of the Champawat district administration said mobile numbers of only 19,400 voters have so far been linked with their respective area electoral roll.
Delay in preparation of the Aadhaar card is one of the major factors behind the slow progress of updating of electoral roll with Aadhaar card and mobile numbers.
The fact of the matter is that a majority of the people have not yet been able to get their Aadhaar card prepared. The process of arming the common citizens with the Aadhaar card is not less concerning in remote and hilly areas of Uttarkhand.
Even in urban areas like Nainital’s Haldwani region, Aadhaar card preparation exercise has turned out to be a tedious task for citizens.
With the job of Nainital district administration seemingly remaining restricted to issuance of only order to the Aadhaar card preparing agencies for expediting the said card preparation process, the aforesaid card preparation process remains quite slow in the district.
The matter of concern is that even after having applied for an Aadhaar card people have to wait for two to three months time to get such card.
The Aadhaar card preparation exercise begin in Nainital in July last year. But citizens continued to experience a tough time to get their Aadhaar card prepared in different parts of the Nainital district. long queues outside the offices of the Aadhar card agencies only give that impression.
It is to note that the Government has made use of the Aadhaar card compulsory for officials works and to avail different popular schemes from this year.
