The Science Express Climate Action Special (SECAS) will be reaching the lalkuan Railway Station on December 3. The Nainital district magistrate Deepak Rawat informed that as per the programme fixed by the Government of India, this mobile science exhibition set up in a train will be in lalkuan railway station from December 3 to 5. The unique collaborative initiative of Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and Ministry of Railway Science Express is set inside a custom built 16-coach air-conditioned train which was launched in October 2007. Since its launch, this mobile science exhibition has till date travelled a total of 1,25,000 kilometres in seven stages with more than 1.5 crore people estimated to have viewed it in 1,435 days.

The main aim of the Science Express- said to be the world’s first mass education programme on wheels- is to create extensive awareness in the public on climate change and issues related to it. An effort has been made through the mobile science exhibition to inform the public about climate change and how to mitigate it.

It also aims to elaborate on the concept of clean energy for young children and students with practical demos and information. It is also aimed at inculcating a scientific temper among them while also creating awareness  on the issue of climate change.

The district magistrate directed the chief education officer Raghunath lal Arya to establish coordination with all government and private schools so that they send as many students and teachers as possible to view this mobile science exhibition.

He clarified that entry in the Science Express is free of charge with the exhibition being open for all.
