Taking a serious note of the inaction on the teachers who are absent for a long period of time, the Director General (DG) of health services D Senthil Pandian has directed the senior officers of the department to take necessary action in next ten days.

To expedite action against these absconders, the DG has constituted a three-member committee which includes additional director Secondary Education NK Bahuguna, additional director Primary Education MS Bisht and additional director DG Office VS Rawat.

Pandian said that strict action would be taken if any officer is found protecting these teachers. It is interesting to note that 228 teachers are absconding from their duties from last two to five years. The DG had asked the department officials to take action against these teachers but it was found that action against a few teachers was initiated.

There are 40 lecturers in the State who are not attending their schools for long. The departmental data suggest that service of only one such lecturer was terminated while one other resigned and one of them was reinstated, which means that departmental action against 37 such teachers is still pending.

Similarly, the department officials are yet to take any punitive action against 31 lecturer Teachers (lT) and 10 lTs in Garhwal and Kumaon divisions respectively.

The data reveals that 31 primary teachers in Tehri, 12 in Nainital, 11 in Chamoli and five each in Pauri, Rudraprayag and Hardiwar districts are absconding from many months without inviting any action from their seniors.
