Pokhri, Pasar and Kayark villages in the Henwal valley are rich in natural beauty. In addition to the scenic splendour, these villages are also known for cultivation of ginger, kidney beans and unseasonal vegetables. However, these three villages and neighbouring hamlets have not been provided road link since the nation achieved Independence. As the villagers find it difficult to transport their produce to the market in the absence of road, residents of these villages are gradually abandoning agriculture. The villagers have now written to Chief Minister Harish Rawat stating that they will undertake an agitation if the Odada-Pokhri road is not constructed soon.
More than six decades after the nation gained independence, Pokhri, Pasar, Kyark and other villages in this region remain without road link even though survey has been undertaken for the purpose. The residents of Pokhri, Amola and Kyark cultivate ginger, kidney beans and vegetables in large quantities. However, absence of road link creates a daunting challenge for villagers who want to sell their produce in the market. The absence of road link also exacerbates the problems of any villager falling sick. local BJP leader Bhaskar Gairola said that absence of a road link has prevented development in these villages. The road construction work is not being started even though survey has been conducted and even compensation distributed to affected villagers, he added.
