Nurses' stir on; patients in Govt hospitals worst hit

PNS

The ongoing agitation by the staff nurses continued on Friday with all those admitted patients in the government hospitals were among the worst sufferers in Dehradun district.

The agitators cleared that they will intensify their agitation if their demands are not met in the given time frame. Although, a delegation of the staff nurses met Director General and Principal Secretary but ended without reaching to any fruitful conclusion. The office bearers of the Uttarakhand Nurses Services Association have decided to continue with their agitation till their demands are fulfilled by the State Government till Monday. Highly annoyed over the lethargic approach of the state government for not fulfilling their year long pending demands, staff nurses from the Doon Group of Hospitals abstained from the work after the completion of morning shift duty at 2 pm on Friday.

All the government hospitals of Dehradun district  including health centres, community and primary health centres were among the worst affected as the agitated staff nurses  abstained from the work after 2 pm. The agitators cleared that they are in the mood of decision show this time and will withdraw their agitation  only after their pending demands are fulfilled by the state government.  Although Doon Group of Hospitals administration deployed trainee para-medical staff and pharmacists for redressing thegrievances of the admitted hospitals in the government establishments but it seemed that it does not work out.

Highly agitated over the callous approach of the state health department for not redressing the year long pending demands of the association even after submitting memorandum several times to public representatives and top bureaucrats, staff nurses cleared that they will work to rule as their demands are still pending.

All those admitted patients in trauma ward, orthopedic ward, paediatric ward and general ward (male and female) of the hospital are among the worst suffers. The agitation staff nurses worked one shift duty as per the norms of MCI (Medical Council of India) which clearly highlighted that one staff nurse should cater the medical need of every five admitted patients in the hospital.

Timely promotion, dress allowance, pay anomaly, risk allowance, six pay commission, appointment of the registrar  etc.  are the few main pending demands of the association. It is equally important to mention here is that the staff nurses had earlier also boycotted the services in support of their pending demands and withdrew their agitation only after receiving assurance from the government that their demands would be fulfilled in the coming days.
