The members of the Congress’s student affiliate  National Student Union of India (NSUI)  staged protest demonstration against what they called the anti- people polices of the Centre here on Saturday.

The NSUI activists assembled at the state  Congress party office and then marched to the bustling  Astley Hall area of the city near Parade Ground. There they torched an effigy of the Union Government while shouting slogans.

Speaking on the occasion, the district NSUI president Bhupendra Negi said that due to wrong polices of the union government, industrialist Vijay Mallya had managed  a huge loans worth Rs 9000 crores from the banks of the country and then had flown out of the country. He claimed that Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s collusion  with  Mallya had helped the latter to  run away with the loot.  Negi further  said that the government should set up an inquiry committee on the whole episode and Jaitley should resign from the cabinet. Other NSUI leaders said that the loan defaulters like Mallya, Neerav Modi, Mehul Choksi and Lalit Modi all are out of the country due to the collusion of the union government.
