The protest to boycott work by the non-teaching staff of the MKP college which began on Tuesday has affected the admission process for the students who aspire to study in this college. The staff is boycotting work in support of their demand for disbursal of their past two months’ salary.
The teaching staff of the college has also supported the demand of the protesting non-teaching staff. The members of the MKP College Non-Teaching Employee Association have alleged that the college management is not working to facilitate the welfare of students and has instead taken a
separate path which does not meet its main objective. They have also alleged corruption in the use of the annual budget allocated to the college. While the non-teaching staff protest in support of their demand, the students seeking admissions are also suffering. Youth visiting the campus to seek admission on Tuesday were sent back and asked to visit after the strike ends.
“I came here to take admission in the BA course but I was not allowed to enter through the gate on the grounds that the admission process is not operational right now due to the strike. I have been asked to visit the college again next week,” said Preeti Dabral.
The protesting staff have stressed that they will not call off the strike unless they get their due salary whereas the management is presently unable to override the order of the Higher Education directorate which has stopped releasing salaries until a principal is appointed in the college.
