The Congress in Uttarakhand appears to be attempting to exploit the non-inclusion of any elected MP from Uttarakhand in the Union cabinet in the coming panchayat elections. The Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee spokesman Dhirendra Pratap has stated that not a single MP from Uttarakhand being inducted into the Central Cabinet is unfortunate. He has exhorted the public to ‘avenge’ this in the coming panchayat polls.
Addressing the media here on Tuesday, Pratap said that the people of Uttarakhand had voted overwhelmingly in support of the BJP in the recently concluded parliamentary elections. However the BJP leaders elected Members of Parliament from Uttarakhand were unable to prove their utility at the national level. “The people should avenge apathy towards Uttarakhand in the Central Government in the Panchayat elections. I hope that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi will soon realise his error of ignoring the people of Uttarakhand and provide representation to the State in the near future,” he said.
The Congress State spokesman also demanded that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi should ensure immediate release of the rS4,000 crore demanded by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat for disaster related works to facilitate speeding up of relief and rehabilitation works in the disaster affected areas.
Welcoming the Vidhan Sabha session slated to begin from June 8 at Gairsain as a historical initiative of the chief minister, he recalled that previous Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna had held the first state cabinet meeting at Gairsain to honour the sentiments of the public and Statehood activists.
