No scientific garbage disposal at Pauri

GP Semwal

The Pauri Municipal Board has not yet established any means for the disposal of garbage of Pauri town, due to which the civic waste remains scattered in different parts of the town.

Though the lack of sanitation is posing a public health risk, the authorities have remained apathetic. The municipal board executive officer said that the proposal of land for garbage disposal has been sent to district administration.

After the public agitation against dumping of garbage in the open, the Pauri district magistrate Chandresh Kumar instructed the municipal board to accord priority to facilitate scientific disposal of garbage. Municipal board started construction work on the land, purchased many years ago, at Mandakhal, for disposal of garbage to suppress the voice of aggrieved public.

However work on this land was stopped when those living nearby protested against the move. The civic body has failed to ensure the desired level of civic sanitation or development in the District head quarters even though lakhs of rupees have already been spent.

The authority has failed to remove encroachments from various parts of the town and has not been able to repair the main road from bus station through Dhara Road-Upper Bazaar. Social worker Bhagwan Verma said that during five years in office, the municipal board hasn’t shown any development, even after spending considerable sums of money. Verma appealed the voters to exercise their franchise in favour of honest candidates who can bring development.

“Those working as contractors should not be elected in the municipal board as after the election, they work for their own welfare, not for the welfare and development of  people”, added Verma.
