Scorching summer continuing for days in U’khand, the people reeled under the sweltering heat on Friday and the Met department has assured no respite from the insufferable heat spell till the end of the week. While the mercury kept hovering in the neighbourhood of 40 degree Celsius in Dehradun and Pantnagar in Udham Singh Nagar district it shot up to over 30 degree Celsius at high-altitude Mukteshwar in Nainital district, six notches above the normal, on Friday. Though the weathermen forecast that it might drizzle sporadically in some districts like Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Pithoragarh on Saturday the people are bracing up for continuing heat spell with no rain-bearing cloud in sight.
In Dehradun, the people continued to suffer not just the heat spell with the mercury soaring up five notches above the normal frequent power cuts and erratic water supply in many of the localities of the city are making things worse. The people of many localities within the civic area alleged that the water being supplied by the corporation was either muddy or the supply was erratic. Besides, the frequent spell of power cuts lasting for hours and the voltage fluctuations are compounding the summer woes.
As per the Met department forecast, dry climate would prevail over most parts of the state save for a few districts where it might drizzle on Saturday. Surface, dry wind with a speed of around 30 km per hour might blow over the State towards the afternoon on the day. The forecast for Dehradun is the same-dry climate with no likelihood of rain and the mercury soaring to over 40 degree Celsius during the day hours. Heat wave condition would continue to prevail in the hills of the state during the next 24 hours, the Met department said.
Quizzed over any sign of rain during the weekend or early coming week, the Met officers said that they are not in a position now to forecast rain for the coming days.
