Facing flak from various sections of the society particularly from the Opposition leaders on the police inefficiency over the infamous escape of Amit Malik alias Bhura from the policy custody, the police department has prepared a sketch of Bhura and pasted it in various places across the country. Moreover, Rs 10 lakh has been announced by Uttarakhand Government and Uttar Pradesh Government for information leading to Bhura’s arrest.
Uttarakhand DGP BS Sidhu said that sketches and photos of Bhura along with the mention of Rs 10 lakh as announced by the Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh governments for information leading to the gangster’s arrest have been pasted at various places across the country. Joint teams of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Delhi are working on the leads that the investigation has thrown up.
Importantly, the joint teams had arrested two persons- Vinay, relative of Bhura and Anuj, relative of gangster Sunil Rathi on Thursday night from western Uttar Pradesh. Teams were deployed at important places in Haryana, Mumbai, Punjab and other states. They have got some clues and we are working on them, he added. Senior police officers of three states- UP, Uttarakhand and Delhi- are monitoring the progress made by the teams from a special control room located in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
Bhura had escaped from the police custody while being taken to the court in Baghpat in connection with a murder case, giving the escorting personnel a slip on December 15. The armed criminals had sprinkled chilli power on policemen and looted police of two AK-47 rifles and one self-loading rifle (SlR) aside from securing the escape of Bhura from the escorting cops.
Sources said that police teams are also questioning the inmates who were in touch with Bhura while he was in Roorkee sub-jail and Suddhowala jail. Notably, two hard-core criminals Bhura and Prakash Pandey had stayed together in the same cell in Roorkee jail and were shifted to Suddhowala jail at the same time and they were again kept in the same cell. Such an arrangement has had many eyebrows raised. Was it because of compulsion with the jails grappling with space crunch or was it made as per a design with a section of the jail staff being involvedIJ
