The Member of the Parliament from Haridwar and former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ met Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu and put forth some proposals regarding modernisation of Haridwar railway station.
He stressed that upgradation of the station and providing it with more railway connectivity is required in keeping with its importance. A delegation from the traders’ association from Haridwar was with him during the meeting. Nishank said that accelerators are required to help the passengers to get into the platforms-2, 3, 4 and 5.
He further said new trains linking Haridwar with some places in South India as well as important places across the country should be provided for in the next Railway Budget. The MP said along with the up-gradation of Haridwar station, those at Jwalapur and Motichur should be developed and modernized too. Things should be extended up to Raiwala, he said. This aside, he demanded an underpass in the place of the over-bridge located over the crossing near Jwalapur. He further said the railway lands should be used in building an over-bridge. This would spare the losses the traders have been incurring since long. It is learnt that the Railway Minister sent for the members of the Railway Board and gave the necessary instructions.
