In accordance with the directions of the High Court of Uttarakhand, the Department of Disaster Management has constituted a committee to investigate Balia Nala landslide in Nainital and suggest remedial measures.
According to the Disaster Mitigation and Management Centre (DMMC) executive director Piyoosh Rautela, this committee is to undertake fieldwork in the area between October 3 and 6 and submit its report to the Department of Disaster Management by October 9.
The committee includes the DMMC executive director, nominees of the Forest Research Institute director, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee director, Geological Survey of India deputy director general, Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology director, Central Building Research Institute, Roorkee director, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing director, Public Works Department engineer in chief and head of department and Irrigation department chief engineer and head of department.
