Due to damaged condition of roads to disaster-affected areas of the State, the Dehradun district administration has advised the representatives of non-government organisations to deposit relief materials at Maharana Pratap Sports College, Raipur, for the State Government to distribute them among affected persons.
Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority secretary Bansidhar Tiwari said that the administration is not stopping people from taking relief materials to disaster-affected areas, but they are being told that they might face inconvenience due to the damaged roads to the affected areas.
According to Tiwari, relief materials are received and stored in Sports College within 24 hours of being informed by the organisation concerned. Food items are transported to the affected areas after demands are made by the district magistrates concerned. To provide relief to the affected persons, seven youth representing Kankuria Social Youth Welfare Committee Howrah reached Dehradun with food materials on Wednesday. The committee treasurer, Satya Prakash Shaw, said that as planned, they wanted to reach the affected areas and serve the people by distributing food items among them. They have planned a 10-day tour of Uttarakhand.
When the committee members approached the district officers, they were informed about the damaged roads and possible inconvenience en route. Shaw said that they were told by the district officials that there is no shortage of food materials in the affected areas and they might reach affected area to verify whether relief materials are distributed among the intended beneficiaries. Shaw and some committee members have decided to reach affected area. They are carrying 46 bags of food materials
and cloths.
