The National Food Security Scheme will be launched on October 2 this year. Chief Minister Harish Rawat announced this while chairing a meeting on the implementation of National Food Security Scheme here on Monday. In Uttarakhand about 62 lakh people will be benefited through this scheme while the remaining 67 lakh people will be placed under the state food security scheme. The CM directed officials concerned to digitise those ration card holders who are outside the purview of the national food security scheme.

The Chief Minister clarified that it was the responsibility of the Government to provide food security to every needy person. He said that if the quantity of food provided to any family gets reduced after the implementation of national food security scheme, the solution should also be considered. During the meeting it was informed that 62 lakh people were under the purview of this scheme in the State. Five kilogram food grains will be provided per head under the norms of Central Government, whereas the state government is providing 15 kg food grains to each family.

The chief minister directed officials to ensure that that digitization is completed soon for those APl families which were outside the purview of national food security scheme. The CM stated that consumption of rice is more prevalent in the state and that the state government had to buy wheat at market price from the central Government, so the State Government has taken decision to interchange the quantity of rice and wheat. Now the State government will provide 5 kg wheat and 10 kg rice under State food security scheme.

The State Food and Civil Supply minister Pritam Singh, chief secretary Rakesh Sharma, principal secretary Radha Raturi and secretary MC Joshi with other officials of Food and Civil Supply Department were among those present in the meeting.
