The new academic session has started but a majority of the Government-run schools from I to VIII standards in Nainital district, have not yet received  books and funds for students’ uniform.

But only three of the eight blocks in Nainital districts-  Kotabag, Ramnagar and Okhalkanda- have so far received funds for free distribution of uniforms among the students of their respective area schools, according to the officials concerned of the education department, Nainital. However, the officials concerned of the  district education department Nainital said that funds would be provided to the left-out blocks in next three days. However, demand for funds for student uniform from two blocks-Dhari and Betalghat- has not yet been received, added the officials concerned.

In a bid to promote basic education, the  state government provides free books and uniforms in the state-run schools. An amount of Rs 2.46 crore has been allocated for free distributions of uniforms among students  studying in 1st to 8th standard schools in Nainital district. Deepak Rawat, district magistrate, Nainital, has directed the officials concerned of the basic education department to provide the requisite funds to all the blocks by end of July.

Rawat  has also asked the officials concerned to ensure free distribution of books among the students at the earliest and  write to the district collectorate certifying that books have been distributed among the students by August 1.

Meanwhile, the district administration has asked the  education department officials to ensure that classes are not held  in such school buildings which are in poor conditions following the rains.

At the same time, the district  administration Nainital has also emphasised on the need to provide basic facilities like drinking water and electricity to all the schools.
