State Medical Health Minister Surendra Singh Negi said that multi-specialty surgical camps and screening camps are to be held with assistance from the National Health Mission in disaster-affected areas and areas with limited access to such facilities.
Reviewing the NHM works with departmental officials on Tuesday, Negi said that a sum of `two crore has been received from the Government of India for organising surgical and screening camps.
Addressing officials, the minister said that it was decided after discussion with chief minister Harish Rawat that the CM has approved a sum of `four crore from his fund. Camps with specialist and department doctors should also be held after talks with the Indian Medical Association to make medical treatment facilities accessible and convenient for the intended beneficiaries.
He directed the NHM officials to seek information from the chief medical officer of each district to ascertain locations for holding screening camps.
Two-day long screening camps should be held in places where improved medical facilities are not accessible. Informing the minister about the progress in National Urban Health Mission, officials said that Dehradun, Haridwar, Haldwani, Ramnagar, Roorkee and Rudrapur have been marked under the NHM.
Medical treatment units will be established at 36 locations in these cities to facilitate medical treatment for residents of slums and the urban poor. Negi directed officials to ensure that work under the urban health mission is started by January 2015.
He directed departmental officials to start preparation of the NHM plan for next year and accord priority to proposals that help in improving the State’s health services.
The mission director was directed to hold discussions with the Government of India and attempt to facilitate Central assistance for establishing super-specialty hospital and medical college at the district level.
