From ISBT, they came to Nakraunda via auto rickshaw and hid in bushes near Thapliyal’s residence at 1.30 am. They managed to get inside a vacant house, which was zeroed by Akhlaq because he used to ferry construction material in the locality by tractor trolley, but did not find anything there then they decided to target Thapliyal’s house.

During media briefing Nadeem, who was masked, disclosed that they came from Saharanpur to commit robbery but did not find anything inside a vacant house then they intruded into Thapliyal’s house.

They had broken into the house on September 10 at 3 am. Although one of their members known as Sazid had managed to get inside by removing the iron grill of a window but he did not come out after few hours then they thought that he might have been apprehended by the owner so all five person who were sneaking nearby bushes went inside to his aid.

Realising that they may get in trouble, Akram fired a shot at him and Ankit died. During scuffle with Ankit Thapliyal two gang members including Nadeem and Sajid got injuries on their head and leg as well.
