Sensing the belligerent mood of powerful teachers’ organisations of the state, the education minister of Uttarakhand Mantri Prasad Naithiani assured them on Thursday that all their demands would be solved within a week.
The Minister had a marathon two hour meeting with the representatives of Prathemik Shikshak Sangh (PSS), the Junior High School Shikshak Sangh (JHSSS) and the Rajkeeya Shikshak Sangh (RSS) at his Vidhan Sabha office on Thursday.
However these associations have clearly stated that they would be on a path of agitation if their demands are not accepted soon.
The State President of RSS, Ram Singh Chauhan said that the meeting with the education Minister was detailed and held in good atmosphere. He said that the RSS has given a time till August 15 to fulfill its demands failing which the organisation would launch a full-fledged State wide agitation.
The general secretary of the organisation, Sohan Singh Mazila said that their demands are provision of 3 day earned leave for teachers, regular annual transfers of teachers and payment of travel allowance which is in sync with the geographical condition of the State.
The RSS is also demanding that all those who qualified the examination of Block and Cluster Resource Persons (BRP and CRP) should be given appointments without any further delay. The State President of PSS, the biggest organisation of Government teachers, Nirmala Mahar said that the meeting with the Education Minister was fruitful but added that the plan of the organisation for State wide agitation from August 22 remains firm. “We want concrete results and not mere assurances. Our plan of month long agitation stands,’’ she quipped.
The PSS is demanding implementation of assured career progression scheme for primary teachers. It is also pitching for increasing entry level salary in the cadre of primary teachers and increased chances of promotion for them.
The organisation is against the policy of creation of three tiers for the government schools and is demanding that serving Block Resource Coordinator (BRC) and Cluster Resource Coordinators (CRC) should be incorporated in the new cadre of BRP and CRP. It is also pitching for parity in pay vis a vis other teaching cadres.
