In connection with a day-old case of a baby being lifted by an unidentified woman from a hospital in Haldwani on February 13, the Nainital police are yet to ascertain the whereabouts of the newborn. The police has released a sketch of the suspect and it has been pasted at various places within the district and other places in the state, said Haldwani Kotwali sub-inspector Hem Chandra Pant who is investigating the case on Monday. Sketch of the suspect woman has been made with the help of baby’s mother and other persons who were present on the day in Hospital.
He said that several teams formed at Kotwali level are striving hard to crack the case. However, we have not got any clues about the woman who had stolen the newborn baby from the hospital on February 13.
Police sources said that the government hospital for women in Haldwani had been without power supply since February 13 morning which prevented the eight CCTV cameras installed in the women's hospital from operation. The unidentified woman who reportedly kidnapped the day-old baby from the Haldwani hospital may have known about the power cut and exploited the scope for lifting the baby.
Nasrullah's pregnant wife was admitted in the hospital on Friday. She had delivered a baby on February 13 afternoon with both the mother and child reported to have been in stable condition. The mother and child were placed in a ward of the hospital when a woman approached at about 3 PM.
Taking the baby in her arms, the woman visitor started displaying affection for the newborn. Introducing herself to the mother as a local resident, she took the baby out purportedly to bask in the sun and slipped away with the child after a few minutes.
It should be mentioned here that the child’s father Bihar native Nasrullah, living in Haldwani, had registered a complaint and a case under section 363 of IPC was registered in the Haldwani Kotwali on February 13. In Dehradun too, a newborn girl child was kidnapped from a government hospital under Premnagar police station by an unidentified woman during September last year. Police have not been able to ascertain the whereabouts of either the baby or the woman.
