Proper information holds the key to the success of any professional police force. But the Nainital district police that claims to be a modernised force, taking care of security of nearly 10 lakh people of the district, has failed to have a proper information department to deal with media at least on some important public interest issues.
The matter of fact is that with the police Headquarter lying in Nainital, the district police department also occupies spacious camp offices for DIG and SSP in Haldwani, apart from local police station and control room.
But the Nainital district police seems to be least bothered to have a proper system to provide necessary public interest information to the media. When the matter was taken up with DIG Sanjay Gunjyal, Nainital range, he merely referred the matter to the CO rank official saying he would look into the matter.
Similarly, when attention of Nainital SSP Sadanand Date was drawn to this issue, he said it seems we have to create PRO office to deal with the media.
Though officials concerned of the police department can be approached on any matter of public interests, most of the time it is difficult to approach them even on phone. Therefore, it is to be seen how seriously the Nainital district police department takes the matter.
