Following imposition of President’s rule in Uttarakhand, the Nainital district administration appears to have geared up to check the functioning of Government departments. Nainital district magistrate Deepak Rawat has directed all government employees in the district to discharge their official responsibilities effectively and ensure timely execution of their respective works. Surprise inspections will be conducted to check the functioning and efficiency of the departments concerned, he added. As a result of these directions being issued, checks conducted by the district administration ascertained that 27 Government employees in various departments were absent from work.
The DM told all the public servants in the district to reach their office punctually and ensure timely action for the tasks on their desk. Also, surprise inspections of government offices will be conducted from time to time to check and improve the work culture and quality of work, said the district magistrate. He also directed all the office heads to regularly check the attendance of their subordinate employees. With issuance of the district magistrate’s order, the administrative machinery appeared to be roused into action on Monday. As soon as various government offices opened for the day, the city magistrate Harveer Singh conducted surprise inspection of various government offices. During the surprise inspection lasting about two hours, a total of 27 employees in different departments were found to be absent from work.
Taking cognisance of this, the city magistrate marked the absence of these employees in the attendance register. The city magistrate making unannounced visits to various government offices appeared to have spread some anxiety among the government workers. In the inspection, Singh found 20 employees absent from work in the Haldwani municipal corporation, three absentee staff each in Jal Sansthan, electricity department and one in the media centre. Orders have been issued for withholding one day’s salary of the 27 absentee government workers.
