The Governor's house of Uttarakhand has started growing mushrooms. On the initiative of Governor Krishan Kant Paul the horticulture wing of the Raj Bhawan has started cultivation of the mushrooms. The wing had sown some seeds of commercial varieties of button and Oyster mushrooms in the bonsai garden of the Raj Bhawan.

These mushrooms are now growing successfully. The secretary to Governor Dr Bhupendra Kaur Aulakh has taken personal interest in the venture. On Friday she inspected the bonsai centre of Raj Bhawan and appreciated the effort. She asked the horticulture officer Deepak Kumar Purohit to train all the employees of the Raj Bhawan about simple way of growing mushrooms at homes. Purohit said that mushrooms can be grown on an altitude of 5000 to 7000 feet but by regulating temperatures they can be commercially grown at an altitude of 3000 feet to 5000 feet also by regulating the room temperature at 20 to 25 degree centigrade.

Expressing happiness at farming of mushrooms in Raj Bhawan, the Governor said that mushroom is a very good source of protein, minerals and carbohydrate but it is costly. He said that efforts should be made so that mushrooms can also be cultivated easily in the houses.
