After stopping the construction of permanent roofs above the Ramlila Ground Road for a few days, the Pauri municipality has resumed this construction work without a green signal from the authority concerned.
The Kotwali police had earlier stopped this work and then later incessant rains prevented further progress. However, now the municipality is violating the orders of the regulatory authority by resuming this construction while the police have remained mute spectators. Pauri Sub Divisional Magistrate Pl Shah told The Pioneer that no permission has been granted to the municipality for resuming this work. It is pertinent to mention that the SDM had earlier served a notice to the Pauri municipal council for stopping the construction. The police had to enforce this order as the municipality continued the construction three days after being served the notice. Pauri and Srinagar towns in the district are under the purview of the regulatory area authority and any private or government building can be constructed only after the building map is approved by the authority. The locals are not in favour of constructing roofs above the Ramlila Ground Road as they fear that this would encourage encroachments and attract mischievous elements to the road.
