With the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the city approaching, the municipal corporation Dehradun is now busy with a special sanitation drive meant to clean the drains and to do fogging in different parts of the city. Further, in course of the drive, unauthorised hoardings and posters are being removed from the Government buildings.
The drive had started on Tuesday which was focused on four of the city’s areas- Vasant Vihar, Indiranagar, Turner Road and Kaulagarh Road. The sanitation staffers cleaned several drains. Besides, cleaning operation was conducted at some other places like Ekta Vihar, FRI Road, Mohit Vihar and Canal Road. Fogging was also a part of the drive. During the drive, several unauthorised hoardings and posters, found littering the walls of the government buildings situated across the city, were pulled down.
The drive continued on Wednesday too during which some areas of the city were cleaned. Also, hoardings and banners were pulled down from the Government buildings.
The people of the city sounded happy over the drive and said that even after the PM’s visit, the momentum to keep the city clean should continue. “There is little doubt that the PM’s ensuing visit has prompted the civic body to be hyper-active. What happens is that once the VVIPs leave the city such drives lose their earlier steams and things come back to the square one. This would not recur this time, we hope,” said a senior citizen residing in the city.
