Additional police forces will be deployed in and around the Vidhan Sabha campus in view of the forthcoming budget session scheduled to begin on March 9, said Garhwal Range IG Sanjay Kumar Gunjyal after presiding over a meeting of the district officers at the Range office here on Saturday. The district administration has also imposed Section 144 in the area in view of the Assembly session.

Gunjyal said that some organisations are expected to carry out protests during the session. In view of this, the district police officers should beef up security in and around the Vidhan Sabha, the protest venues and important routes of the city.

He said that police officers should have prior information about the protest venue, protest time and the routes wherein protesters would pass through during agitation. Adequate police forces should be deployed during protests and protesters should be stopped at the nearby barricades at any cost. No one should be allowed to take the law into one's own hands, he added.

The Dehradun SSP was directed to take measures to ensure smooth flow of traffic in the city, apart from maintaining law and order in the State Capital. Security should be beefed up by deploying additional police forces inside and outside the Vidhan Sabha.

The police officers were directed to ensure that taxies, buses, vikrams, vegetable carts and fruit carts are not allowed parking around the Vidhan Sabha area. CCTV cameras should be installed at entry and exit gates at many places in the district.

The district officers were directed to ensure that verification of tenants, servants are done with the help of Uttarakhand police mobile app. The accident-prone areas should be identified and a sign board should be installed for the safety of the commuters. Police and SDRF personnel should be deputed around landslide-prone areas.

As cases of theft have increased in Haridwar and Dehradun districts, the police officers were directed to take preventive measures as well as ensure that stolen items are recovered, he added.
