Doon hospital has registered an appreciable increase in number of patients in its various Out Patient Departments (OPD) and admitted patients as compared to first nine months of last financial year. The Principal Medical Superintendent (PMS) of Doon hospital Dr R S Aswal claimed this while addressing newsmen here on Tuesday.
Releasing the data of patients served, Dr Aswal informed that a total of 4,07,275 new patients visited the OPDs of hospital from April to December 2014 while 3,69,485 patients visited the hospital in the corresponding period last year which means an increase of 37,790 patients. Similarly the hospital registered an increase of 862 in the admitted patients. The increase in the number of patients served is also reflected in the earning of the hospital as the user charge collections rose to Rs182,860,75 from Rs150,294,57 in the corresponding period of last year.
Dr Aswal attributed the decrease in number of CT scans in the hospital to the digital X- ray machine which was installed in the hospital this year. A total of 7,038 CT scans were done this year while the figure of corresponding period last year was 7,389. He said that due to the clarity of digital X ray the doctors recommended less patients for CT scan this year.
The radiology department of hospital has done 3,178 Digital X rays this year. The PMS said that the hospital needs at least two more radiologists to meet the large patient load. He informed that the 69 patients died in the hospital in first nine months of the hospital as compared to 645 deaths last year. While most of the departments of Doon hospital registered an increment in number of patients the department of orthopedic registered a decline in the number of major and minor operations. The PMS attributed this to disaster of last year due to which large number of people needed to be operated upon.
The PMS of the biggest hospital of the state stated that the hospital needs one more Operation Theatre (OT) to cater the large patient load. The hospital at present has three OTs. He said that a Surgeon Dr Bipul Kandpal has joined the hospital on contract and since he is specialist in leproscopic surgery the patients would be benefitted from his services.
