In order to facilitate redress of various problems being faced in the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun, Rajpur Road MlA and parliamentary secretary Rajkumar has submitted a memorandum to the Mukhya Nagar Adhikari (MNA) Nitin Singh Bhadoriya pointing out the anomalies and seeking corrective measures.

In the memorandum, Rajkumar has stated that there are about 123 recognised slum settlements in Dehradun, but the property tax has been ascertained only on some of these settlements. The MCD loses crores of rupees every year by not collecting property tax on all such settlements. Similarly, revenue loss is being incurred as property tax has not been assessed on homes in many areas that were merged into MCD from under the purview of Gram Sabhas during formation of the municipal corporation.

Stating that maintaining sanitation is one of the main tasks of the MCD, the MlA points out that this task is not being executed efficiently with garbage containers missing at many places and garbage littered on the road where the garbage containers are placed. The number of tools provided to workers for sweeping, cleaning drains and clearing weeds should be increased; the availability of wheelbarrow should be ensure with the sanitation workers; battery operated rickshaws should be provided for garbage lifting as in various other States and number of nullah gang members should be increased.

Regular sprinkling of germicides should be continued along the Rispana and Bindal rivers along with the nullahs at Mannuganj, Balbir Road, Dalanwala, Raipur Road, Dl Road, Chandernagar, Indreshnagar and Kanwali Road.Regular fogging should also be ensured to tackle mosquitoes. The property taxes of large commercial buildings in the municipal area should be reviewed and rational amount of property tax should be calculated on these to increase the corporation’s revenue.

Drains and minor link routes are damaged in various municipal areas with the department concerned failing to ensure timely repair and maintenance.  The work of this department should be reviewed. The MlA has also asked for measures to be taken to improve the condition of Raen Baseras for the homeless and shelters for stray cattle.
