PNS

A minor inmate of Nari Niketan has delivered a baby girl. The condition of the baby is said to be a cause for concern; so she has been kept in an incubator at the Mahant Indiresh Hospital. It will be recalled that a pregnant girl was shifted from the Haridwar juvenile home to the Nari Niketan in Dehradun in January this year. At that time the minor was four months pregnant. Her case caused a uproar with the Dehradun district magistrate ordering an inquiry following the intervention of the State Human Rights Commission. later, representatives of the State Womens’ Commission and social organisations had visited the Nari Niketan to check on the pregnant minor. The minor gave birth to a girl at the Doon Women’s Hospital from where she and the baby were shifted to Mahant Indiresh Hospital. According to officials, the Nari Niketan caretaker and a nurse have been sent to Mahant Indiresh Hospital to take care of the minor and her new born baby.
