Minister warns lackadaisical GST Hospital staffers

Rajendra S Markuna

Despite the Government Sushila Tiwari Hospital (GSTH) being under the scanner of the State Government, of late, the staffers there are singularly reluctant to fall in line with the Government-envisaged norms. Disappointed with the dismal functioning of the premier hospital of the region, State Cabinet Minister and MlA from Haldwani Indira Haridayesh during her surprise visit of the said hospital on Wednesday warned the staffers against taking their duties casually.

Cabinet Minister's surprise visit to this hospital on Wednesday is the third one in a row  after surprise raids conducted by Chief Minster Harish Rawat and Nainital district administration in a month or so. Despite such high-profile surprise visits, things have remained unchanged here, the State Finance Minister and MlA from Haldwani is understood to have said.

She is reported to have vented ire over the Government’s sincere efforts to better the State of things here going waste. Things are bleak here as compared to other premier facilities like AIIMS in New Delhi.

This hospital came up  to provide better health services to the people of this  region. But the failure of the hospital administration to manage things has made a mockery of the Government’s mission to provide the needy with  better and affordable health services, she is said to have regretted.

However, the Government  is committed to providing  better health care facilities to the people and this hospital will not be allowed to get reduced to just a referral centre, she asserted. At the same time, the State Cabinet Minister is said to have expressed disappointment  over poor use of biometric system of attendance by the GSTH administration.

During checking, it was found that while a few hospital employees care to mark their attendance through the biometric system others choose to mark their presence in the register. Taking this matter seriously, the State Cabinet Minister is understood to have said that rules should be the same  for all the staff members  from a fourth class employee to a doctor, adding that she would take up the matter with the government for proper implementation of the biometric system.
