The authorities of Mahant Indiresh Hospital here have denied the charge of negligence in the death of a female patient. A pregnant lady Javitri Devi who was a resident of city's Old Survey road died during delivery on Friday; the agitated relatives of the deceased protested outside the hospital on Saturday and lodged a complaint of negligence against the gynecologist of the hospital.
The Medical Superintendent of the hospital Dr Vinay Rai told The Pioneer that the death of the patient occurred due to the excessive loss of blood during the delivery. He said that the ultrasound report had confirmed that the child of the woman had died inside the womb and the hospital followed the norm of going for a normal delivery by inducing it with the help of injections in this case. "It is very unfortunate that during the delivery a major blood vessel Uterine Artery ruptured which caused excessive blood loss", he said. Rai claimed that the team of doctors did their best to save her life but unfortunately could not succeed.
The relatives of deceased had alleged that the doctors of the hospital were careless in the treatment of the patient. They contended that when the ultrasound had revealed that the child is dead the doctors should have removed it surgically. As per the norm the matter would now be referred to the office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO).
Talking to the Pioneer CMO, Dr BS Jangpangi said that his office is yet to receive any written information from either the police or compliant from the relatives of the deceased. He however added that when the matter would come before him a panel of the doctors will thoroughly investigate the case.
