Permits for autorickshaws and new route plans for city buses were discussed in the meeting of Regional Transport Authority (RTA) which was organised at the camp office of Garhwal commissioner on Thursday. The meeting was stormy one with members of the unions of City buses and Vikrams engaging in aggressive slogan shouting against each other.
The meeting was presided over the Garhwal Commissioner and RTA chairman C S Napalchiyal and attended by the Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Dehradun Sudhanshu Garg in his capacity as RTA secretary.
It is learnt that the meeting discussed requests to grant permits to 1000 Auto rickshaws in Haridwar and decided on pending requests of new permits of the city buses. The grant of route permits on Dehradun Selaqui, Rajpur- Clement town, MDDA office – Datkali, Parade ground- Premnagar, and Premnagar- Gularghati routes were discussed in the meeting.
The President of Dehradun city buses service, Vijay Vardhan Dandariyal objected to the RTA’s decision of taking up the issue of changing the permits of Vikrams from existing 6+ 1 to Maxi cab (7 + 1). The association said that the under provisions of Motor Vehicles Act 1988, the RTA should take permission of Union Government for new routes of Vikrams since Dehradun is a Mahanagar. The representatives of Vikrams, Maxi and Tata magic operators also put their issues before RTA. The RTA discussed the issues on agenda for the day and reserved it decision.
