The indefinite strike of Uttarakhand Diploma Pharmacists Association had paralysed medical services in the mountainous regions of the State. During the work boycott of the protesting pharmacists, the patients of the remote mountainous areas of the Garhwal region visiting the district hospital and the primary health centres were deprived of medicines with pharmacists boycotting OPD and emergency services in all Government hospitals and health centres.
The three days of the indefinite strike posed severe hardships for the citizens, especially those with limited finances as most of them were unable to afford medicines from chemist shops.Due to the shortage of doctors in the mountainous districts of Uttarakhand, it is only the pharmacists who provide many medical and health services in these areas which exacerbated the problems faced by the public due to their work boycott.
