Uncertainty continuing to haunt the people, post note ban, the meat vendors are at the receiving end of things. Winter having set in, they expect the people to throng their shops in their hordes. But the reality is different with the buyers eluding the shops. Those who are coming are not ready to part with much money to satisfy their love for meat.
“Things look grim for us. The number of people has come down drastically. Even the Sundays or other holidays are proving no different. The people are not ready to spend much, volatility continuing in the situation with the banks and the ATMs failing to supply the required amount of currencies. However, things turn a tad better in case there are functions in their houses. It seems that the non-vegetarian people are adjusting to vegetarian food under the compulsion of the situation. This is natural because one has to part with at least Rs 300 for a kg of mutton whereas they can buy enough of vegetarian items for just Rs 100,” said Raheem, a meat vendor in the city.
Archana Gairola, a housewife, said, “I, myself, am non-veg. Besides, my husband and son love to have mutton, particularly in the winter days. Usually, we have mutton or chicken at least thrice a week. But things are different now. Meat being expensive, we are going for vegetarian items to save money during these hard days.”
