MDDA parking lot reverts to being paid one again

PNS

The paid parking at the MDDA commercial complex near Clock Tower, which was kept free for many months by the authorities, will revert to being a paid parking from Tuesday.

A table listing rates for parking various vehicles for different time durations has been put up at the parking facility but with the parking rates being fixed at odd amounts, there is concern among the frequent users of this facility that the facility managers will hand out toffees to them instead of change.

The parking facility at the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority commercial complex near the Clock Tower is vital for resolving traffic congestion caused in this area due to improperly parked vehicles.

After initially opening it as a paid parking facility last year, the authorities converted it into a free parking facility in order to encourage the public to use this facility which is used for about 2,000 vehicles including four-wheelers and two-wheelers every day. From July 1, this facility will once again become a paid parking. However, the parking fee rates fixed by the service provider have raised some concern among the public.

Talking to the correspondent, Poonam Mittal said that nowadays many people don’t carry change with them so the parking charges should be fixed at round figures. The parking facility supervisor Shanky Panwar said, “Either we will get change from the bank or toffees would be given to the paid parking facility users in case we don’t have change.”

It is pertinent to mention here that the parking charges to be applicable from Tuesday will be `21 for parking bus/four wheeler for upto four hours; `seven for parking two wheelers for upto four hours and `two for parking a bicycle for the same time duration.
