MCD's official website still not fully functional

PNS

Though officials of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun have been assuring necessary steps to make the corporation’s website fully functional for about three months now, no such steps have been taken so far. As a result, most of the on-line facilities on the MCD website are not functional.

Various options present under the menu section on the home page of the site are still not functioning. The Project / Schemes option, the Achiev-ement menu, Nagar Nigam Act section are still incomplete and need to be resolved. The Nagar Nigam Act option on the website when clicked is responding with a message of ‘file or directory not found or temporarily unavailable’.

Similarly, under the Project/Schemes option in the menu section, various sub pages are either unavailable or displaying a message of page still under construction. Various relevant informations including, list of Beneficiaries of the SJSRY Project and the details of the Sanctioned Project of the JNNURM project is also missing from the site.

However, when asked about this anomaly, the Mayor of Dehradun, Vinod Chamoli had recently stated that basically the Mukhya Nagar Adhikari is the responsible authority to resolve this issue.

Meanwhile, MNA, Ashok Kumar had three months back claimed that this problem would be resolved at the

earliest but several options available in the website are still in a non-functional state.

However, after The Pioneer reported on this anomaly in the near past, some menus on the site were updated three months back but many other links still need to be repaired.

Environment Officer, Project Implementation Unit, Pankaj Bhatt, informed that MCD pays around `9,500 annually to the software company for renewal of the domain space. He said that last year the renewal fee was not paid on time, which resulted in the delay in the updating task of the website.

Sharad Sharma of Web Solutions informed that the content of the MCD website was last updated in 2012. He added that this is a government site and he has no authority to update any information by his own side without the permission of the department.

Sharma, who has been associated with the MCD site since 2008, said the website is mainly designed in two parts the dynamic and the static. The static part has fixed content, which is not updated every year while the dynamic part of the website is changed periodically. The dynamic part include options like tender, achievement, photo gallery, news and events, services, grievance redressal, project report and other. The contents of the dynamic portion need to be updated from time to time.
