After successful completion of the human chain event, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will now start imposing strict penalties on those violating the polythene ban. From coming Monday onward, anyone found using the banned items will be penalised Rs 500 per polythene bag.
According to the Dehradun municipal commissioner, Vinay Shankar Pandey, now is the time to take strict action against anyone who violates the ban. “Anyone found using polyethylene bags from Monday will be fined Rs 500 per bag.” said Pandey.
The Government and the MCD have stressed that the efforts will not stop with this event. Strict measures will be taken to make Dehradun clean, green and polyethylene free.
“We have raised an alarm in the form of a human chain event in which more than one lakh people participated,” said deputy municipal commissioner Rohitash Sharma.
“We have given those violating the ban enough opportunities. According to the orders of the high court and the guidelines set by State and Central Governments, firm actions will be taken against them from Monday,” he added.
