The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has failed to utilise the total amount of Rs 6 crore provided to it by the Central Government under the 13th Finance Commission, alleged the BJP councillors while disclosing various anomalies in the functioning of the MCD.
Addressing the media here on Thursday, BJP councillor Sushil Gupta said that around Rs 6.5 crore was sanctioned by the Central Government under the 13th Finance Commission for the year 2011-12. Gupta said that MCD has failed to utilise the total amount in the development works; therefore the remaining amount had lapsed. He said that recently after the intervention of Urban Development Minister, Pritam Singh Panwar the amount has been released again for use till March 2014. The BJP councillors had also asked the MCD officials to provide a detail report of the total money spent from this amount.
Opposing the Mukhya Nagar Adhikari, Ashok Kumar and Congress councillors’ decision of purchasing separate dustbins for each ward of the city, the BJP councillors termed it to be a joint conspiracy of the MNA and the Congress councillors just to disrupt the sanitation arrangement of the city.
It must be mentioned that earlier the Congress councillors had put forth the proposal of purchasing around 50 dustbins for the municipal wards and later MNA forwarded the proposal to the Mayor of Dehradun Vinod Chamoli.
The proposal was later discarded by the Mayor who had said that this would only be a hindrance in the functioning of the Doon Valley Waste Management company which undertakes collection and disposal of garbage in town.
Meanwhile, BJP councillors also stated that the data provided by the MCD officials states that around 15-16 woodstoves are put at various places in the town while in reality only 4-5 woodstoves are put at different places in the town. They have also asked the MCD officials to give a fresh report on this.
Among those present on the occasion were senior BJP councillors Bhupendra Kathait, Kamli Bhatt, Sardar Jiwan Singh and others.
