PNS

Nagar Vikas Karamchari Mahasangh (NVKM) protested for second consecutive day on Friday at Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) regarding the case where an official who was part of a team that was assigned to remove the encroachment from the city was beaten up by the local shop keeper in Moti Bazar, a day earlier.

After being assured by the municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey and Mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ of arrest of the accused, NVKM took back its protest in the afternoon. This caused major inconvenience to the local resident reaching MCD for work. It is worth mentioning here that on the direction given by the mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ an encroachment drive is active in the city.

On Thursday, during such a drive in busy Moti Bazar area, the MCD team was caught up in a heated argument with a local shopkeeper which ended up in a fight. An officer was brutally beaten by a furniture shop owner and his employees in which officer’s left hand got fractured. Addressing the media during the protest secretary NVKM, Satendra Kumar said, “One of the officials from the team that was assigned to remove encroachment from the city was beaten up by local shopkeeper.

We are hurt that not only an employee in MCD but also a member of our Sangh was so brutally beaten up just for doing his duty. A complaint was filed against the owner and the people who did that however this is not enough and we want a proper arrest.”

Adding further in this he said, “We will close MCD every day till our demand is not fulfilled. It is important that officers understand that employees are putting their life at risk and they are not given proper forces for such a task.MCD should not only increase the employees but also should protect workers assigned for such a task.”

Municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said, “We have filed the complaint and have also talked to the Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nivedita Kukreti to arrest the people who have done this. We are assured that steps regarding this will be taken soon.”

Meanwhile, the local people in MCD faced inconvenience as the tax department; account department, the land department, and other such sections remained closed till 1 pm.
